Statewide Cleanup Day is October 17th

This year, DelDOT is asking every Adopt A Highway group to clean their road on Saturday, October 17th.

Members of Countryside Garden Club are going to clean up Brackenville Road in Hockessin between Rts. 48 and 82.  If you can help us, please meet with us at 9:00 AM at Ashland Nature Center’s  Parking Lot.
This is the 11th year of this event, and in the past, it has been a great success, as hundreds of volunteers throughout our state, picked up thousands of pounds of litter.

This event is scheduled in the fall so that we can clean up the roadsides before the weather gets cold, and we might not be able to pick up trash for a while, due to temperatures, and possibly snow.

This year, Miss Delaware, Brooke Mitchell will be helping us call attention to the problem of roadside debris and your efforts to keep Delaware beautiful, by joining us on Oct. 17th.

Recently, she reached out to DelDOT, and asked if she could join an Adopt A Highway group during our statewide clean up day, as part of her effort to publicize her platform, “Volunteerism: Turn Your Passion Into Action.

Mitchell said that Adopt A Highway is a great avenue for people to volunteer.
“I look forward to the clean up because it is so important to keep our state clean,” she said. “Delaware is a beautiful state and we should respect it by cleaning it up and embracing the beauty around us.”
Mitchell, resides in Selbyville Delaware. She attends Delaware Technical Community College with a major in Elementary Education. She is currently a dance teacher at Cheryl’s Dance Alley in Millsboro where she has danced for 17 years.

As Miss Delaware, she plans to pursue her platform of volunteerism by helping people find their passion and giving them the opportunities to pursue them through volunteerism. In addition to helping with Adopt A Highway, Mitchell plans to visit every school in the state to ensure that each child has the materials needed to start and continue volunteering regularly.
