Hiro’s visit to the Gothenburg Botanical Garden in Sweden

Gothenburg is located southwest of Stockholm.

The botanical garden was conceived and planned by the municipality of Gothenburg in the 1910’s as a botanical garden with an extra emphasis on horticulture, and with a broad relevance to Swedish community life.

Since the fifties, they’ve been on a number of expeditions to Japan, exchanged seeds, researched and worked with lots of Japanese plants, many of which are unusual. This year, their focus was on these plants and everything Japanese with guided tours, talks, shows, art, courses, and a Hanami picnic.  (Unfortunately, those events were done when we visited the garden in October.)
